It’s pretty obvious that this website gets neglected. Most of our online communication is through Facebook, so check us out there Facebook.com/AustinCarpenters.
There will be a new site in the near future, but if you have any questions, please call us at 512-476-7354.
Great turnout tonight for the nomination and election of delegates to the General Convention.
Had a great turnout last night for a mixer and open house dinner last night. Non-members were able to tour the training center and meet with members to learn what we’re really about. Everyone enjoyed a chicken dinner and a raffle where a lot of great tools were given away. Organize or die. Let’s win the work!
I hope everyone had a good weekend and a fun, safe Halloween. As we head back into the work week, I want to remind you that Tuesday is Election Day. If you haven’t already, please take the time to go vote. Just like our Union, participation is what makes it strong and what makes it work for you.
There are still spots available for the Best Practices in Healthcare Facilities class that starts this weekend. Care the Training Center to sign up.
Tomorrow, Sept. 5th, there will be a new member orientation at the Hall. 5-8pm. It will be required for apprentices as it also serves as class registration. All other new members and any other member that would like to attend are welcome.
We’re currently running an ad on KLBJ-AM (590 AM) and KOKE-FM (98.5/99.3 FM). Tune in and give it a listen.
Starting today the Texas Tribune is running a multiparty story about the realities and dangers of working in Texas. The state is and it’s booming economy is built on the backs of its workers and in return the labor force is treated to high numbers of fatalities, a broken/corrupt workers’ comp system, and little to no oversight or enforcement of safety conditions or fair labor practices. Check it out.
An interior systems contractor in Nashville, TN is being hit with a record penalty for misclassifying workers. They were found to be paying only 5% of the taxes and insurance they should have been paying. Read about it here.
We had a huge turnout at the Grand Opening event tonight. Thank you to Jason Engels and all the Regional and Local staff for putting together this great event. Also thank you to all the great guests we had, including Congressman Lloyd Doggett, State Rep Paul Workman, City Councilman Mike Martinez, UBC General President Doug McCarron, UBC Secretary Andy Silins, UBC VP Danny Maples, and many more. I’ll post some pictures when I can!
